Together our three parishes in and around Coggeshall in the beautiful northern Essex countryside have much to offer: a range of church architecture, different styles of worship and activities.
Working together
Working together across parish boundaries has a long tradition. In White’s Directory of 1848 there is mention of the Coggeshall and United Parishes Agricultural Society which is supported by farmers and gentlemen of the town and neighbourhood.
And so in 2022 we adopted our new name: Coggeshall and United Parishes - in short CAUP.
A gift
The word ‘caup’ (kɔːp), an archaic British English word, means:
“A gift given to one’s master in return for one’s keep and protection.”
We understand our benefice, our parishes, our church communities, ourselves as gifts we gladly offer to Jesus as we joyfully follow him and invite others to do the same - because He alone is trustworthy and offers abundant life.
We hope to meet you in one of our locations soon. Everyone is welcome!
