SUMMARY:Lunchtime Concert- Christine Stevenson- Piano Concerto
DESCRIPTION:Christine Stevenson \nChristine Stevenson enjoys a distinguished career as a piano recitalist and concerto soloist throughout the UK and abroad\, continually drawing critical acclaim for her virtuosity\, musicianship\, and the engaging rapport she establishes with audiences. She is co-Artistic Director and tutor at the annual Summer School for Pianists at Stowe in Buckinghamshire where she gives masterclasses\, and she is also on the staff of the Junior Department of the Royal College of Music in London. Her writings about piano music can be found at www.notesfromapianist.wordpress.com. \nThis season’s concerts include programmes entitled ‘The Art of Pilgrimage’\, based around Liszt’s Années de Pèlerinage: II – Italie\, where the pieces were inspired by works of art and sculpture by Raphael and Michelangelo\, by a song attributed to Salvator Rosa\, and by poetry and literature written by Petrarch and Dante. Christine’s recording of Années de Pèlerinage: II – Italie was released in the year of Liszt’s bicentenary\, receiving excellent reviews. Curiosities are also featured this season – variations on a theme by Diabelli written by composers other than Beethoven: by the eleven-year-old Liszt\, by Schubert\, and by Franz Xaver Mozart\, youngest surviving son of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. \nBorn in Melbourne\, Christine graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts with distinction\, being twice awarded the Gaitskell Prize for the most outstanding student. She studied with pupils of Cortot\, of Nadia Boulanger and of Michelangeli\, and with the celebrated English pianist Ronald Smith\, also participating in masterclasses given by Sergei Dorensky\, Aldo Ciccolini\, and Vlado Perlemuter.
