Bellringing

If you are in the Coggeshall area on Wednesday evenings you may hear the sound of church bells ringing in the distance.

Wednesday is our practice evening where ringing takes place at St.  Peter’s from 7.30pm until 9pm.

We ring for Sunday morning service from 9.00 to 9.30am. Ringing also takes place for weddings – both on Saturdays and increasingly during the week – occasionally for funerals and also for special occasions such as royal events and anniversaries of historical events.

The tower houses one of the heavier rings of bells in Essex with the number of bells having been increased from 8 – 10 to mark the Millenium Year 2000.

We often have visiting bands of ringers and occasionally a bell-ringing competition is held where several teams from different parts of the country come to enjoy the experience of St. Peter’s bells.

St. Peter’s Belfry is a dedicated Training Ringing Centre and is recognised by the Central Council of Church Bell Ringers for the training of new ringers and the advancement of others.
