Open the Bible

Open the Bible

'Open the Bible' is a team of people from St. Peter’s Church who visit St. Peter’s Church of England Primary School most Wednesday afternoons during term time, to act out a story from the Bible to a whole school assembly. We comply with the school’s safeguarding regulations, as well as those of the Diocese.

Open the Bible is a three-year rolling programme and we are now in our tenth year. We have written our own dramas, each of which last between 8 and 10 minutes. This is followed by a simple prayer, the Lord’s Prayer and often a song.

Each half-term has a different theme, working our way through both Old and New Testaments.

Mindful of the fact that we are addressing children as young as 4 and as old as 11, we use a lot of visual effects as well as the actual words. We have a wonderful array of costumes and props gathered over the years made by various group members.

Open the Bible involves the children as much as possible. Some weeks between 4 and 10 children join us for non-speaking parts in the drama, while at other times the whole school join in with a simple repetitive phrase or noise.

Over the years people have come and gone from the team for various reasons, (age, ill health, moved away) but we have also welcomed new and keen members, with different ideas to keep us moving on.

We are a small but very enthusiastic team, that gain so much from the children. If you are interested in joining us or would like further information, please contact Steve, Derek or Helen.
